Escape Room Technician
Condon,
QLD,
Australia
You're the wizard behind the curtain — the one who builds the tech that makes every "how did that just happen?" moment possible.
The Role
We aren't just a business — we're a portal to other worlds. Whether our guests are preventing a nuclear meltdown in Chernobyl, navigating an ancient Pyramid, or surviving Jumanji, it's your tech running the show behind the walls.
As our Escape Room Technician you'll redevelop our escape room controller from the ground up — our own custom platform built on ESP32, Node-RED and MQTT — then roll it out across every room. Day to day you'll wire sensors, relays and maglocks, keep every puzzle running flawlessly, and bring new ideas to life in our in-house workshop.
No two days are the same. One hour you're flashing firmware on a controller; the next you're 3D printing a prop, tracing a wiring fault, or play-testing a brand-new puzzle. If you like building things that real people get to experience — keep reading.
What We’re Looking For
🔌 Electronics Native
You're comfortable with a soldering iron and a multimeter, you've worked with ESP32 or Arduino boards, and wiring a sensor to a relay doesn't scare you.
🖥 Node-RED & MQTT
You've built flows in Node-RED (or can pick them up fast) and understand how MQTT ties devices together. Basic networking knowledge keeps everything talking.
🛠 Maker at Heart
3D printing, laser cutting, CAD, woodworking, prop building — you love turning ideas into physical things, and you'll have a 3D scanner, 3D printer and laser cutter to do it with.
🧩 Methodical Problem-Solver
When a puzzle fails an hour before a session, you can find the fault fast and fix it properly. You document what you build so it stays fixed.
Core Responsibilities
- Design and build our custom ESP32 / Node-RED / MQTT room controller
- Wire and install sensors, relays, maglocks, lighting and sound
- Maintain and repair puzzles and props across all rooms
- Troubleshoot faults fast to keep sessions running
- Upgrade existing puzzles and prototype new ones
- Fabricate parts with the 3D scanner, 3D printer and laser cutter
- Document wiring, code and configurations
What the Job Actually Looks Like
Essential Skills
- Hands-on ESP32 or Arduino experience
- Working knowledge of Node-RED and MQTT
- Confident soldering and wiring skills
- Methodical fault-finding under pressure
- Able to work independently and manage your own schedule
- Own licence and reliable transport
- Available for call-outs when something breaks
You'll stand out if you also bring
- Escape room or themed entertainment experience
- CAD, 3D printing or laser cutting skills
- Woodworking or prop-making background
- Show control, AV or theatre tech experience
- Linux / Raspberry Pi and networking know-how
